HUSTLE finds success at TUF!

HUSTLE - Glide's sister team - had its inaugural tournament with STELLAR SUCCESS!  Seeded at 11th going in, HUSTLE (well more like 2 lines of Hustle and 1 line of Glide) met up with rivals NoBS who was our pool's first ranked team, meeting them both on day one and day two gave a good gauge on HUSTLEs weekend development.  In game 1 our opponents' defence proved effective and held us to a 9-12 loss despite tenacious effort.  HUSTLE learned a ton, and took it the next 3 games employing a new defensive strategy.  Modifying on the fly our D-line stole the spot light and rolled through opponents with absolute tenacity going 3-1 on the first day.

Day 1 Recap:
- Loss to NoBS 9-12
- Win over Undertow 13-8
- Win over Thunder 14-6
- Win over Max Power 8-6
On Day 2 HUSTLE was now being commonly referred to as GLIDE despite our many corrections to the contrary. Our first game was against what would become the first place finishers, TRIBE.  This game proved that HUSTLE had earned its name not merely through choice but action.  Much like GLIDE's inaugural season HUSTLE chose to fight to the very end, grinding out a 25+ minute point against what would become the tournament champions.  Unbelievable heart.

Our second game was a much wanted rematch, 4 games later we had learned an enormous amount and HUSTLE took to the field determined.  A much improved performance, HUSTLE grinded point for point scoring the final 2 points on O and D to tie it up at the horn.  Despite a loss on universe it was a solid day.

A solid tournament, one more game would see us finish 7th, a solid advancement from the original 11th place ranking.
Day 2 Recap
- Loss to Tribe 7-12
- Loss to NoBS 9-10
- Win over Thunder 15-4

Bonne Année a Tous!

OCUA and FUO's collaborative tournament was held January 4th-5th 2013, at the new recreational complex in Gatineau, and many Glide players made it out for the fun.

One of Glide's affiliated tournament teams - AstroGLIDE - did particularly well! Christmas turkey and wine aside, AstroGLIDE played a stellar tournament to beat seed and place 3rd.

Highlights include: Jen Saxe catching hammers in the endzone on a 6-foot tall girl, Eric Jacques skying GOAT players repeatedly (when will they respect him on the deep?), and Astro-associate Kate Cavallaro staying classy while shutting down See Some Pork’s key female handler.

Astro had a blast at this tournament. Thanks to OCUA and FUO for organizing; excellent competition from Squeezy Lemons, Evolve, Chewbacrew, Dynamite, G’s Pot, and See Some Pork; and positive, constructive attitudes from teammates.

AstroGLIDE is looking forward to Coup de Foudre in February, and Mars Attaque in March! See you on the circuit!

GLIDE Rocks the 4v4!

GLIDE has moved inside for the winter – look out 4x4!

G1 and G2 (clever names - we know...) have returned with a vengeance to the OCUA East Sunday 4x4 league.  With a mix of GLIDE veterans and new talent, these two teams are going to be a challenge to beat!

AstroGLIDE (obviously so-named because we play on Astro Turf! Right...) is trying out the new Branchaud-Brière Complex in FUO’s Fall Sunday session.  So far, we’ve been very impressed with both the excellent new facility and the level of spirited competition.

AstroGLIDE is also participating in the Quebec CQU4 circuit, and is still coming down from a HUGE performance at Montreal’s Movember tournament.  Going in seeded 26th, Astro improved seed by thirteen spots to tie for 13/14.  This placed Astro as the top-finishing Ottawa team in the tournament.  We were especially happy with a universe loss to EURQ (9th place) and a solid win against Mephisto/Odyssey-based Terrain #4 (15/16).  Next up, Bye-Bye in Trois-Rivières at the end of the month!

GLIDE-based “Wolf Apocalypse” wins Harvest 2013

A pack of killer wolves is taking over the world, and the only way to stop them is to climb to the top of Wolf Mountain and take a swig of “venison blood” while howling! We had many Jäger-swigging human pyramid climbers, but none were able to stop GLIDE-based Wolf Apocalypse from going 7-0 to win Harvest for the second year in a row. Once again, Harvest proved to be a fun, excellently-organized tournament – thank you Peterborough Ultimate for doing it right! Stay tuned for our 2014 entry - Wolf Zombie.

Wolf Apocalypse is a Glide-affiliated team captained by Simon Partridge and Ryan Katz-Rosene, and featuring Glide veterans and newcomers alike: Paula Saliba, Karyne Pinard, Erin Krekoski, Alanna Baillod, Justine Price, Jacquie Reeds, Jenn Reid, TJ Reeds, Adam Elliott, Matt Landry, Dominique Dallaire, Lance Blackstock, Eric Jacques, and Darryl Gordon.

Glide on the Side

Some of Glide's affiliated teams have had some big wins lately that we'd like to share with you:

First, let's start with the Godzilla Match. This is the Ottawa Carleton Ultimate Association's biggest game, where the winners of each league night of the summer square off for bragging rights. This year the winner of Monday night's league was Cruisin' - a team captained by Glide players Dom Dallaire and Ryan Katz-Rosene. They squared off against Primitive Mystics, the champions of the Wednesday night league. Also on Cruisin's roster were Glide's handler champs Jenn Reid and Mark Thompson, as well as a number of other Ottawa comp players (including players from Stella and Glide's hometown friendly rivals - BFC). This game was televised on Rogers Sports, and Cruisin' pulled out a big victory that made Glide proud.

Second, Glide's other affiliated leagues teams - Glide Monday (captained by Patrick Legare and Darryl Gordon) and Glide Wednesday (captained by Gordon Warrack and Patrick Legare) - also had some strong showings in the league championships. Of particular note was Glide Wednesday's big comeback in the 3rd Place match against Flibbertygibbets in the Playoffs. Despite being behind by a considerable margin at halftime, the team hammered back after a close huddle chat, and came out fighting to win the game. Way to go!

Third, we should mention Glide's affiliated fall tourney team - The Wolf Pack. This team is a resurrected version of The Wolves (who made a name for themselves by cleaning up at Kingston's Goosebowl Tournament in October 2011 with 8 straight victories). This time around the pack featured another stellar Glide-based roster, this time captained by Simon Partridge and Ryan Katz-Rosene, and featuring special guests from Hamilton's comp team (Prodigy) - TJ Reeds and Stacey Samis. The Pack travelled up to Peterborough for Harvest 2012. Despite a 5th place seeding, the Wolf Pack cleaned up big time with 7 straight wins, taking out Squash (and their 'unique' un-melting zone defense) in the finals. Teams from around these parts might want to keep an eye out for The Wolf Resurrection - coming to a tournament near you soon! Special thanks go out to the tournament organizers of Harvest - who put on such a funtastic weekend.

Next up - keep an eye out for Glide in indoor 4 on 4. And just a related note - If you're interested in playin' with Glide in the 2013 summer season, a good way to get involved is in 4 on 4. If this is you - get in touch with Team Captain Jason Solomon soon!
