Glide on the Side

Some of Glide's affiliated teams have had some big wins lately that we'd like to share with you:

First, let's start with the Godzilla Match. This is the Ottawa Carleton Ultimate Association's biggest game, where the winners of each league night of the summer square off for bragging rights. This year the winner of Monday night's league was Cruisin' - a team captained by Glide players Dom Dallaire and Ryan Katz-Rosene. They squared off against Primitive Mystics, the champions of the Wednesday night league. Also on Cruisin's roster were Glide's handler champs Jenn Reid and Mark Thompson, as well as a number of other Ottawa comp players (including players from Stella and Glide's hometown friendly rivals - BFC). This game was televised on Rogers Sports, and Cruisin' pulled out a big victory that made Glide proud.

Second, Glide's other affiliated leagues teams - Glide Monday (captained by Patrick Legare and Darryl Gordon) and Glide Wednesday (captained by Gordon Warrack and Patrick Legare) - also had some strong showings in the league championships. Of particular note was Glide Wednesday's big comeback in the 3rd Place match against Flibbertygibbets in the Playoffs. Despite being behind by a considerable margin at halftime, the team hammered back after a close huddle chat, and came out fighting to win the game. Way to go!

Third, we should mention Glide's affiliated fall tourney team - The Wolf Pack. This team is a resurrected version of The Wolves (who made a name for themselves by cleaning up at Kingston's Goosebowl Tournament in October 2011 with 8 straight victories). This time around the pack featured another stellar Glide-based roster, this time captained by Simon Partridge and Ryan Katz-Rosene, and featuring special guests from Hamilton's comp team (Prodigy) - TJ Reeds and Stacey Samis. The Pack travelled up to Peterborough for Harvest 2012. Despite a 5th place seeding, the Wolf Pack cleaned up big time with 7 straight wins, taking out Squash (and their 'unique' un-melting zone defense) in the finals. Teams from around these parts might want to keep an eye out for The Wolf Resurrection - coming to a tournament near you soon! Special thanks go out to the tournament organizers of Harvest - who put on such a funtastic weekend.

Next up - keep an eye out for Glide in indoor 4 on 4. And just a related note - If you're interested in playin' with Glide in the 2013 summer season, a good way to get involved is in 4 on 4. If this is you - get in touch with Team Captain Jason Solomon soon!
